  Helen was a Riegel, daughter of Charles Riegel and his wife Eva Edna (Reber) Riegel according to her Christening record. She was Christened on 6 Feb 1906 at Hain's Church. However, from childhood she was raised by and later apparently adopted by her mother's aunt and uncle, John & E. Lillie (Reber) Bagenstose who raised her to adulthood. The adoption must have occurred after 1910 since she is listed with them as their niece, but by 1920 she was listed as their daughter. She is indicated as a daughter on the obituary of her birth mother and as an adopted daughter on her adopted mother's obituary. Her maiden name was Riegel and was indicated as such on her marriage license, but her obituary has her adopted parents listed as the parents. A little confusing.
