- Ellen Rebecca Barthlow (nee Lamm) passed away on Feb. 16, 2018, at Ann's Choice retirement community in Warminster, Pa. She was 99.
Born in Berks County in an area populated with Pennsylvania Dutch in 1918, she was the oldest daughter of eight children in the Lamm family whose German ancestors date back to before the Revolutionary War.
During World War II, she worked at a mill in Reading, Pa., manufacturing parachutes, among other items.
She was the widow of Clarence Barthlow, who died in 2015, also at Ann's Choice. They were married in 1947.
Both were members of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Pottstown, Pa., where they resided for 51 years. She was active in the church's Quilting Club and a treasurer of the Women's Guild. For decades, she donated to the Women's Guild proceeds from the sale of fasnachts, a traditional German doughnut made on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins.
Survivors include a brother, Rev. Harold Lamm; two children, Mary Hernandez-Cuebas (Paul), of Doylestown, Pa., and Dr. Douglas Barthlow, of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren: Dr. Lisa Watkins (Patrick), Rebecca Hernandez-Cuebas and Zachary Barthlow; two great-granddaughters, Camila and Liliana.
She was preceded in death by six siblings: Warren, Alvin, Miriam, Grace, Charles and Benjamin.
Funeral Services will be held at the Ann's Choice Chapel on Feb. 23 at noon; receiving will begin at 11:30a.m. Interment will be at St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ cemetery. Arrangements made by Decker Funeral Home, Warminster.
