- Esther G. Hackman, 89, of the Brethren Village, formerly of Ephrata, PA, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at home. Her husband, Walter N. Hackman, Sr., died March 11, 2009. Born in West Cocalico Twp., she was a daughter of the late Moses and Lizzie Gockley Wenger. She was employed at the Denver Nursing Home for 12 years, retiring in 1973. A member of Mohler Church of the Brethren, she was a former Deaconess and a member of the Women's Aid Society. Esther enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, crafts, games, Gospel hymn singing, and visiting and entertaining family and friends.
Surviving are her children: Mark E. (Nancy) Hackman of Akron, PA, Walter N. (Yolanda) Hackman, Jr. of Ephrata, Joyce A. (David D.) Zimmerman of Reinholds and Rev. Galen R. (Doris) Hackman of Akron, PA; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter Addison Marie Sensenig, and sister and brothers: Nora Wenger, David, Amon, Dr. Samuel, Norman, Edwin, Rev. Henry, John, and James Wenger.
Funeral: Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Mohler Church of the Brethren, 21 E. Mohler Church Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522. Viewings Tuesday from 6-8:00 PM at the Chapel at Brethren Village and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30-11:00 AM. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Denver, PA.
