- Lester M. Schaeffer, 57, of Bernville R.D. 1, died Monday afternoon in his residence.
Born in Upper Bern Township, he as a son of Samuel M. Schaeffer, Bernville R.D. 1, and the late Mary (Klopp) Schaeffer. He had been employed as a custodian by the Upper Bern Elementary School for the past seven years.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of St. Michael's Union Church, Tilden Township; the Shartlesville Lion's Club; the Shartlesville, Central Berks, and Mount Pleasant fire companies; the Northkill and Strausstown rod and gun clubs; and Moose Lodge No. 523, Hamburg.
Surviving in additon to his father are his wife, Stella I. (Egan) Schaeffer, and his stepmother, Margaret S. (Bright) Schaeffer.
Three sons: Lester M. Jr., stationed with the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Va.; Ronald B., Shoemerksville; and Richard A., at home.
One daughter, Phyllis F., wife of Gregory Mertz, Reading, and five grandchildren.
Also three brothers: Earl S., Rehrersburg; Paul R., Paoli; and Ray V., West Lawn, and a half-sister, Linda M., wife of Howard Geisinger, Tremont.
Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Kirkoff Funeral Home, Bernville, the Rev. Ronald Haney officiating. Burial will be made in St. Michael's Cemetery.
