- Evelyn G. Gainer, 86, of Mount Joy entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. She was married to Kenneth A. Gainer for 62 years.A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Evelyn earlier in her life worked in the maternity ward at Lancaster General Hospital and for the late Dr. Lewis Johnson, Dermatologist. She was a 62-year member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, a member of the Needlework Guild of America, Mount Joy Chapter, of which she served as Treasurer for many years, and a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 407, Elizabethtown. Evelyn was a 1941 graduate of the former East Hempfield High School and a 1945 graduate of Lancaster General Hospital, School of Nursing. An avid birdwatcher and nature lover, she also enjoyed playing pinochle, collecting thimbles and Matchbox cars, and was a Penn State fan. Evelyn was very dedicated to taking care of her family and a committed friend to all who knew her.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Rohrer and Emma Miller Getz.In addition to her husband, Evelyn will be dearly missed by her sons, Craig, married to Susan Gainer, Ellicott City, MD and Mark, married to Michele Gainer, Lancaster; a granddaughter, Lindsay, married to Matthew Attaway, Oak Park, IL; and a brother, John married to Thelma Getz, Lititz. A son, Keath Alan, preceded her in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Evelyn's Memorial Service at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 3 p.m. There will be no public viewing; however, Evelyn's family will receive friends at St. Mark's Church from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Interment is private in West Greentree Cemetery, Mount Joy Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's U. M. Church, Building Fund, 37 E. Main St., Mount Joy, PA 17552. Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era 5/25/2010
