  Residing in Mercer County, Pennsylvania at the time of enlistment. Enlisted on August 29, 1862 as a Private in the 145th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company G, at the age of 17. Wounded in left leg, amputated, on June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia. Died at Washington DC of wounds received. He was born on 6 December 1844, in Salem, Mercer County, PA, to Richard Osborne Peirsol and Rebecca (Chalfont) Peirsol. There are several different spellings of the family name including Pearsoll, Piersol, and Peirsol. Peirsol seems to be the spelling used on the family gravestones, most of which are located in the Stevenson Cemetery, Mercer County, PA.
