- GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – Alexander S. “Alex” McCurdy, age 66, of Sylvan Way, Greenville passed away Friday evening, January 27, 2017 in Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Greenville on March 8, 1950, a son of Wells and Nancy (McDowell) McCurdy.
He was a 1968 graduate of Greenville High School where he excelled on the football and golf teams and was a 1972 graduate of Grove City College with a degree in political science.
He was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville.
He was employed at Ryder Co. before taking over the family business, S.S. McCurdy Jewelry and Sporting Goods in Greenville, until it’s closure in 1992.
Counseling the states youth, he retired as a clinical manager from George Junior Republic, Grove City in the summer of 2016. A master of his craft, he continued to work part time at George’s Jewelry, Meadville.
An enthusiastic hunter and golfer, Alex truly enjoyed spending time outdoors.
Alex was always prepared for having fun and quite often ready with a quick joke or witty remark and was a loving man of great wit who will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy McCurdy of Greenville; two daughters, Melissa Raber and her husband Anthony of Pittsburgh, Elizabeth McCurdy of Greenville; a son, Jon McCurdy and his wife Ann of Pittsburgh; a sister, Madge Nichols and her husband Dennis of Beaver, Pennsylvania; a brother, Wells McCurdy of Falls Church, Virginia; five grandchildren, Madison, Matthew, Nicholas, Samuel and Simon; three nephews; his previous wife, Christine McCurdy of Greenville and best friend, Earl Fenton of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, February 1 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville, Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. James Leuenberger officiating.
Private Inurnment will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery.
