"FOUR SCORE SIX Are the Number of Years Mrs. Catherine Osborne Has Lived"
"Mrs. Catherine Osborne, 417 High Street, this city, is today celebrating her 86th birthday. Mrs. Osborne was born in Northumberland County, Pa. Her father, John Eckenroad moved from Northumberland county to North Jackson township, Mahoning county in 1830, when Mrs. Osborne was eight years of age. She married James Osborne when she was eighteen years of age and has lived in Jackson township until October of last year, when she moved to this city with her daughter Mrs. Wallace W. Clemmens and a granddaughter Mrs. J. W. Smith. Mrs. Osborne is hale and hearty and has the appearance of one who could live to celebrate her one hundredth birthday. Last fall in coming to this city, Mrs. Osborne took the first train ride of her life. The novelty proved to be very wonderful and pleasing to her. Although she had traveled many hundreds of miles in her youth, her long journey had been made before the day of railroads. Mrs. Osborne describes in interesting manner her trip through Pittsburg in 1830. That great city which today numbers more than half a million people was than a small village. It was a thriving place even at that time, however, one of the most important industries then as now being the glass industry. When Mrs. Osborne's father came to Ohio he found it a great wooden wilderness inhabited by wild beasts. Most of the 110 acres which he purchased for his farm was covered with a luxurious growth of timber. Mrs. Osborne is remarkably rugged in her physique for one of her advanced years. She is spry in getting about and until her removal to this city, she did her own house work, churning and milking and other farm chores."
OBITUARY
Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 19 Nov 1915
"North Jackson - This is a very good picture of Mrs. Catherine Osborne, whose death in Warren at the age of 93 and funeral from the Presbyterian church at this place was noted in last week's Dispatch."
"Mrs. Catherine Osborne, widow of the late James Osborne, died last Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Libbie Clemens, Parkman Road, Warren with whom she resided. Death was due to old age as the deceased was in her ninety-third year. She took ill last March and had been in failing health ever since. Mrs. Osborne was born in North Cumberland county, Pa. and resided there until she was eight years of age, moving with her parents to North Jackson. The trip was made in a wagon. Eight years ago she went to Warren to reside. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church in North Jackson for twenty-nine years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Libbie Clemens of Warren, and Mrs. Eliza Urich of North Jackson; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Short funeral services were held Sunday at the home on Parkman road. The remains were brought to North Jackson where the regular services were held in the Presbyterian church. The following grandsons and great-grandsons acted as pall bearers; James and Wade Urich, J. H. Smith, John J., Charles and W. F. Osborne."
