- Herman R. Davidson, son of Robert and Amanda Jordan Davidson was born in Hillsboro, Iowa, Feb. 15, 1875 and departed this life at 1 pm Oct. 12 1960 at Sigourney, Iowa. He was the youngest son of eight children, all of whom have preceded him in death except a sister, Mr. Lottie Ruby of Des Moines, Iowa.
March 31, 1898 he was united in marriage to Eva J. Moxley and to this union were born five children; Phin R, deceased, Wayne R., of Keosauqua, Iowa; Lillie Higdon of Greenwood, Ind.; William of Fairfield, Iowa and Joseph L. of Sigourney, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 24, 1946 and a grandson Joseph Wayne Higdon.
When about one year of age, he moved with his parents to a farm in Van Buren county, north west of Hillsboro, where he grew to manhood, and continued living on the same farm for 40 years.
On January 1, 1919, he moved with his family to Keosauqua, Iowa, to assume the duties of Deputy Sheriff of Van Buren county for a period of four years, after which he was elected Sheriff for two terms and served the county as an honest and faithful public servant.
After leaving the Sheriff's office he started employment with the State Highway Commission and worked for a total of 22 ½ years, 20 years of this service was spent as maintenance foreman of the Keokuk County Sate Highway system, headquarters in Sigourney, where he retied at the age=2 0of 72 years.
IN the year 1893 he united with the Free Will Baptist church of Hillsboro, and lived according to the laws of that church there after.
He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America lodge since 1898, and also the last one of the original members of the old Martial Band of Hillsboro.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
