  Walter Van Dyke of Casey, Illinois, was born and raised on a small diary farm in rural Greenup, Illinois. After high school he taught country school for 2 years then attended Eastern Illinois University. He left EIU to begin an apprenticeship with the newly organized Ettlebrick Shoe Mfg. Company. After serving as Supt.for the Casey plant for several years he was transferred to the Greenup office serving as purchasing agent, buyer and finally on the Board of Directors. He retired at age 62 because of ill health. He was also a very active civic person serving on the Casey School Board,Casey City Council and was past president of the Casey Lion's Club plus being well know as a Master of Ceremony for various activities. He was known for his baseball skills - playing on several local teams and being inducted into the Casey Softball Hall of Fame. He was the father of four children:Infant Rhonald James b. 1933, Joyce Van Dyke Skinner ,R.Scott Van Dyke , and Roger W. Van Dyke .
