  (Note: Her birth certificate lists her name as: Martha Chevya German) Martha was the 4th born of 6 children of a Russian-born father (Isaac German, 1881-1954) and Romanian-born mother (Leah Fisher, 1882-1953), both of whom emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. Martha was the 3rd of the family's 3 girls. The family surname was changed to "Gorman" around the outbreak of World War I, so it would not be associated with the German people. Martha married Milton Moore Wasser on May 20, 1944 at the Central Presbyterian Church, Washington D.C. At the time, she was the Executive Secretary to the Chairman of the U.S. Railroad Retirment Board. Milton was an enlisted soldier in the U.S. Army, assigned to an air defense artillery battery protecting the nation's Capitol. The couple had 4 children, all girls: 1) Marjorie Wasser (Isobe) 2) Shirley Wasser (Hamme) 3) Jean Marie Wasser (Saldutti) 4) Linda Irene Wasser (Vogestad) Martha died at age 96 from congestive cardiomyopathy; arteriosclerotic heart disease, and gastrointestinal bleeding. She was cremated. Her cremains were inurned at the Garden of Memories, Central Schwenkfelder Church, Worcester, Pennsylvania.
