- Jesse Davis was a farmer and a Quaker, the son of James Davis & Patience Miller. He married on 1, 11, 1781 at Center Friends Meeting, Guilford County, NC, to Elizabeth Reynolds, daughter of David Reynolds & Mary Parker; 13 children: Adam, Edith, Joel, James, Mary, Warner, Miller, Jesse, Joseph, Ruben, David, Hannah, & Alice.
Jesse outlived his wife Elizabeth by nearly 14 years. He died 7, 26, 1829. His will, dated 2, 23, 1829, and proved in August 1829, bequeaths a vast estate of land and personal property to his many children. For example, "I give and bequeath unto my son Adam Davis his heirs & assigns for ever one tract of land containing two hundred & fifty acres be the same more or less whereon he formerly lived for which I made him a deed, also one horse saddle & bridle one cow & calf one croscut saw one log chain & one rifle gun all which he has received." (He also left Adam "ten dollars in money." Ten dollars in 1829 would equal $249 in 2011. Adam Davis was my great-great-great-grandfather.)
For taking care of him in his final years, widower Jesse left 50 acres to his granddaughter Seneth Davis, daughter of Alice Davis.
