  Donald R. Hugh, 78, of 1309 Hertz Dr. SE died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at his home after a 21 year battle with cancer. Services at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Harlan Gillespie and Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Inurnment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi at a later date. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Monday. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Trudy and a brother, Clair and his wife, Josephine of Belleview, Washington. He is also survived by a brother in law, Jack Schalles of Ceres, California and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don was born on Feb. 8, 1926 in Delhi, the son of Raymond and Marie File Hugh. He graduated from Delhi High School in 1943, he received his bachelors degree form Iowa State Teachers College in 1949 and his master's degree from the University of Wyoming in 1957. He married Gertrude ''Trudy'' Werner on Dec. 24, 1951 in Robesonia, PA. Don taught in Gowrie for seven years and later at Washington High School for 31 years where he was head of the Math Dept. for 14 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and proudly served in the Navy during WWII, with his last assignment on the submarine, Trepang. Don was an avid sports fan and followed the Washington Warriors, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Don touched the lives of many. He was respected and admired by his colleagues and students.
