Donald E. Showers Sr., 86, Muhlenberg Township, died Dec. 8, 2007, at 5:45 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he was a patient for four weeks.
He was the husband of Gertrude E. (Clouser) Showers.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Alverta C. (Paul) Showers.
He worked as a car inspector for Conrail for 42 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a 1939 graduate of Reading High School.
He was a member of Reading Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Muhlenberg Township.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Also surviving are three sons: Donald E. Showers Jr., husband of Deborah Showers, Clermont, Fla.; Dennis E., husband of Laura Showers, Reading; and Dean E., husband of Zenda Showers, Wyomissing; and two daughters, Pamela S. (Showers), wife of Michael Raybuck, Bowmansville; and Paula S. (Showers), wife of Paul McCullock, Nashville, Tenn.
Other survivors include a sister, Miriam (Showers) Binasiwiz, Berkshire Manor, Exeter Township.
There are also eight granddaughters, a grandson and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Reading Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 3301 Stoudts Ferry Bridge Road, Muhlenberg Township. The Rev. Brydie L. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Hope Mission, 117 N. 9th St., Reading, PA 19601, in memory of Mr. Donald E. Showers Sr.
