- A memorial service for James Alfred Byers, who died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro by the Reverend Dr. Glen Holman.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

James Alfred Byers, 91, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Summit Square in Waynesboro. He was born October 26, 1916. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and of Lehigh University.
For more than 35 years he was employed by DuPont in Waynesboro. During World War II he served in Hanford, Washington on the Manhattan Project. He was active in Waynesboro community service, including Kiwanis International; Lions Club; C.U.R.E.; Adult Reading Program; and the First Presbyterian Church, serving on the Diaconate and Session, and the Sunday school program.
He was married to the late Barbara Byers from 1941 until 1986, and to the late Betty Driscoll from 1994 until 2006.
Surviving are four children, Diane Bodkin of Barrington, Illinois, Janet Byers of Baltimore, Maryland, Alfred Byers of Orem, Utah, and Jim Byers of Charlottesville; a brother, Richard Byers of Catonsville, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; and one great- grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 25, 2008.
The family requests memorial contributions to be sent to the Salvation Army or to Summit Square Fellowship Fund.
The family sincerely appreciates the loving care given their father by the Summit Square nursing and administrative staff.
