- Ernest Cecil Custalow Sr., 67, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, October 29, 2001. He was an American Indian and tribal member of Mattaponi Indian Tribe in King William County, Va. He was a member of Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church, Richmond, where he was a deacon and adult men's Bible class teacher and served on various committees. He was a retired employee of E.I. DuPont, Richmond and a Korean War veteran. He is survived by his wife, Anna Penuel Custalow; one son, Ernest C. Custalow Jr., his wife, Mary and their children, Benjamin, Sarah and Aaron of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Dawn Custalow Griffiths and her husband, Rick of Matthews, N.C.; four brothers, Ralph D. Custalow and A. Kenneth Custalow of the Mattaponi Indian Reservation, Calvin D. Custalow and Malcolm T. Custalow of Richmond; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2001 at Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church, 4205 Ravenswood Rd., Richmond. Rev. Ernest C. Custalow Jr. officiating. Interment Mattaponi Baptist Church Cemetery, Mattaponi Indian Reservation, King William County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.
