John P. "Jack" Doll, 1950–1989
Services for John P. "Jack" Doll, 39, of 1305 Delta Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa, will be at 11 a.m. Tues., Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Mr. Doll died Friday morning (Feb. 24, 1989) at Burton Avenue and Airline Highway of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Black Hawk County medical examiner ruled the shooting a suicide, which family members attributed to a long-term emotional illness. He was born July 12, 1950, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., son of Lawrence and Eileen (Price) Doll. He married Marjorie L. Faulkner on Dec. 29, 1979, in Waterloo. At the time of his death, he was employed at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works. He was also past co-chairman of the Bremer County Democratic Central Committee. Survivors include his wife; a son, Matthew E. at home; his parents of Oelwein; two brothers, Greg L. of Marshalltown and William A. of Davenport; three sisters, Donna Foley of Cedar Rapids, Diane Swatek of Nekoosa, Wis., and Judith Malget of Oelwein; and maternal grandmother, Isabel Price of Wauzeka, Wis.
