Obituary
Horace W. Styer Born June 1, 1923. Died January 10, 2012. Preceded by mother, Lillie V. Weaver Styer; father, Adam Styer; brothers, Norman, Robert, Jacob and Harold Styer. Survived by partner/caregiver, Blanche White; sons, Jerry Styer (Marge), Gary (Tammy), Kevin (Jill), Craig Sweigart (Linda) and daughter, Kay Styer Youndt (Ernest); 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Horace grew up in the Pennsylvania Hills of Lancaster County. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army during WWII. He went thru training in Southern California, was on his way to England in 1943, served with the 778th Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons BN. With the 3rd Army in the Ardennes, Alsace, the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe, German Rhineland and Army of Occupation. He was awarded the Bronze Star for battles at Bastogne and Rhineland. Returned to his home in Pennsylvania 1946 and worked to establish his own business in Martindale, PA. Was also Fire Chief for several years, has a small band which he called the Three Steps for 12 years. Before moving west to Tucson in 1969. He worked in the Body Shop for Jim Click for 23 years before retiring. Horace was a long time member of Tucson Elk Lodge 2532 for over 30 years and was active in most of their worthwhile committees. He was also a life member of the VFW and American Legion. Horace also enjoyed his music, dancing and traveling with his companion. Those who knew Horace would agree that he loved God, his country, family and was a true gentleman. Service will be held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery on Monday, January 16, 2012. Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., Service will begin at 12:00 noon anyone wishing to make a donation in his name may make a donation to the Tucson Elks Lodge 2532 on Pantano Way for the Veterans and Children's funds.
