• Notes

  (Burial location unknown -- Muddy Creek was the ancestral church of Catharine's husband and very likely where his parents were buried.) Judging from the birth dates of the last child by George Steffan's second wife and the first child by his third wife, the marriage must have taken place in 1776. The marriage took place at Cocalico Reformed Church ("PA Church Records", I, p.39), her father being Jacob Mötz probably from the large clan based at Raphno. Her father may well be the Jacob Metz of Earl Township on the 1790 and 1810 Census. As of George' Steffy's death in 1792 they were still living on the Lancaster side of Brecknock Township. Catharine was still alive as of the probate of George's estate in Orphan's Court in 1798.
