GASTONIA, N.C. — Danny Kaye VanZant , 55, went to be home with the Lord on Friday ( Nov. 5, 2010 ) at Caromont Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born in Kingsport was a former resident of Gate City , Va. , and had lived in Gastonia for the past 16 years. Danny was a graduate of Gate City High School, and attended Graham Bible College and Reformed Theological Seminary. He was former pastor of Freedom Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Gastonia . He was formerly employed by Sears and the Gaston County School System as a teaching assistant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynton and Lelia Bloomer VanZant ; brother, George VanZant ; and his sister, Connie Morris.
Survivors include his wife and mother of his son, Terry VanZant of the home; his son, Adam VanZant of Gastonia; three sisters, Margaret Ann Bradshaw, Anita Taylor and husband, Mike, and Deborah VanZant , all of Gate City, Va., and his twin sister, Donna Eads and husband, Mike of Kingsport; three brothers, Garry VanZant and wife, Linda and Donnie Van Zant and wife, Linda, both of Gate City and Lynton “Bud” VanZant, Jr. and wife, Jewell of Kingsport; special aunt, Frances Jennings of Gate City; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City , Va.
Funeral services will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Gilbert Rowell and the Rev. Joe Hill officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City . Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and cousin, Dustin Eads, Andy VanZant , Zachary Taylor, Michael Taylor, Travis VanZant , Tim Bradshaw, Brian Odle and Mevlin Jennings.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contriibutions may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, 2850 Union Road , Gastonia , N.C. 28054 .
Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is serving the VanZant family.
