- Joseph A. Dell, 94, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Phoebe Berks, Wernersville on March 1, 2015 at 11:55 a.m.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Angela T. (Styer) Dell.
Born in Reading, he was the oldest son of the late C. Raymond and Cecilia (Buser) Dell.
Joseph attended Reading Catholic Central High School, Brunnerdale Seminary, Ohio, and graduated from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Indiana in 1940. He then attended St. Charles Seminary in Ohio from 1940 to 1944.
Joe was employed with ICC as a manager and Secretary Treasurer. In 1963, he was employed by GAC Corporation as District Manager until his return to Reading in 1972 to work for Dell's Upholstery. His final employment was with DJ Upholstery in Wernersville.
In Reading, Joe was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in West Reading, and then St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sinking Spring, and attended daily Mass at the Jesuit Center in Wernersville. He served as an extraordinary minister of communion and a lector at Sacred Heart.
Joe was a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, serving as Comptroller, Financial Secretary and member of the Color Corps. He was a member of Pius IX Assembly 930 and Council 793. He was a member of the Serra Club, and Exchange Club of Reading, where he served a term as President.
He is survived by his children: Angela M. Dougherty, wife of Thomas Dougherty of Williamsburg, VA; Dr. Maureen C. Thiec, wife of Randolph V. Thiec of Glenville, PA; Deborah Ann Mann, wife of Major Bernard W. Mann of St. Louis, MO; Kevin J. Dell, husband of Elizabeth (Connelly) Dell of Fairhaven, NJ; Dennis M. Dell, husband of Judy (Loeper) Dell of Sinking Spring; Sharon M. Baro, wife of Robert B. Baro of Sinking Spring; and Gregory T. Dell, husband of Lorraine Wickstrom of Glenn Dale, MD. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Francis X. Dell of Oxnard, CA; and sister, Marie C. Ciotti of Reading, PA.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shelia R.; brothers: Edward, Raymond, Bernard, Thomas; and sister Catherine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2810 St. Alban's Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608 on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9:30 a.m., with Reverend Joseph A. Currie, S.J. as celebrant. Prior to the Mass, a viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The family will also receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His close friend, Reverend Jack Barron, S.J. will lead a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jesuit Center, P.O. 223, Wernersville, PA, 19565, in memory of Mr. Joseph A. Dell.
