  Rachel's father is identified in an article about her grandson, Francis Madison Ross. "BEASLEYS FARM AND HOME WEEKLEY", November 12, 1942, Vol 12, #46. "A son of Alexander and Rachel, Francis Madison Ross, studied medicine in Louisville, Kentucky and practiced medicine until he became Registrar of Deeds in Mecklenburg County, NC. Later, he became postmaster at Charlotte on 28 December 1852. "Dr. Ross was a cousin of Gen. D.H. Hill of Civil War fame. His grandfathers were Col. William Hill and Major Francis Ross, both Revolutionary War heros." York County Probate Records Case 22, file 913 identifies her as a Hill. The Ross/Grier/Elms Bible also identifies her as a Hill.
