- Mary Ann Morrella, 85, of Wernersville, formerly of Robesonia, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
While serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Naples, Italy, she met her future husband, Ted Morrella. They were married in Rome in 1969. Mr. Morrella died on November 11, 1975. Mary Ann returned to the United States and eventually moved back to Robesonia.
Born in Reading on July 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Verna (Brigel) Gerhart.
Mary Ann was a 1947 graduate of Robesonia High School, and a 1951 graduate of Albright College where she earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
She was employed as a banker at Wells Fargo Bank, International Dept., for many years. She owned the Toll Gate Inn, Robesonia, in the 1970s.
She was a member of the Berks County Library Board for many years, the Friends of the Robesonia Community Library, the Embroidery Guild of Berks County, and the Great Books Club. She enjoyed watching birds at the feeders, loved her pets, was an avid reader and a great cook.
She is survived by sisters, Patsy, wife of Vernon Bright, of Robesonia, Sandra, wife of Jack Prutzman, of Sinking Spring; a brother, David, husband of Jeanne Gerhart, of Robesonia; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces.
There will be no services. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
