- Viola M. Esbenshade Buch, 87, of Ephrata, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly at Ephrata Community Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2009.
Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Martin Esbenshade. She was the wife of Roy H. Buch for 68 years.
She was a member of Metzler Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active in the sewing circle. She attended Bethel Mennonite Church in Sarasota, FL, during the winter months.
Viola will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking, embroidering and quilting. She volunteered at the Ephrata Re-Uzit Shop for over 25 years. She looked forward to spending the winter months in Florida where she made many friends and enjoyed visits from family. She also enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing shuffleboard.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Janet M., wife of David Good of Elida, OH, and two sons, Richard E., husband of Kathryn (Martin) of Akron and Roy E., husband of Marlene (Landis) of Ephrata, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by five sisters, Velma Weaver of Lititz, Margaret, wife of Paul Wyble of New Holland, Bertha Martin of Ephrata, Alice, wife of Earl Horst of East Earl and Anna Mary, wife of David Horst of Ephrata.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Esbenshade and a sister, Helen Esbenshade.
A viewing will be held at Metzler Mennonite Church, West Metzler Road, Ephrata, on Thursday evening, July 30th, from 6 to 8 PM. There will be a funeral service held on Friday, July 31st, at Metzler Mennonite Church at 10:00 AM, with a viewing from 9 to 10 AM prior to the service. Pastors D. Eugene Zoll, Nevin Horning and Lee Roy Martin will be officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
