  Catherine I. Knabb, 81, Penn Township, passed away Aug. 4, 2009, in Reading Hospital. She was the widow of Russell E. Knabb, who passed away in 1973. Born in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late William C. Egan and Verna M. (Boyer) Egan. She was employed as a chef at the Wyomissing Lodge for seven years. She had been previously employed by the Berks Career and Technology Center in Leesport in the cafeteria for many years. She was a member of Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bern Township, where she was a member of the Senior Berners and active on numerous church committees. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a former Blue Bird leader. She was also very active in the church bake sales. She won two first-place prizes at the Topton Lutheran Home Founders Day Bakeoff. She was also an active member of the Pennsylvania German Fersommling. Surviving are two sons, Michael A. Knabb, and wife Cheryl A. Knabb of Fleetwood, and Gregory S. Knabb, and partner Taunia Hubler of Penn Township; two daughters, Corinne L. Bender, and partner Keith A. Hoover of Penn Township (Corinne is the widow of Kent R. Bender), and Dolores A. Gruver, wife of Jeffery W. Gruver of Douglassville. There are also four grandchildren: Ryan K. Bender and Annie S., Christopher M. and Nicole E. Knabb. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Egan. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church, 820 W. Leesport Road, Bern Township, Leesport, PA 19533, with the Rev. David Roper officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
