- Clara Hackman, Ephrata, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her family at the Ephrata Community Hospital on Thursday, October 25, 2012, which was her 86th birthday.
She was the wife of Donald Hackman with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. They attended Speedwell Heights Church, Lititz, before she started having health issues in October of 2011.
Born in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Urie and Nancy (Yoder) Peachey.
Clara owned and operated Clara's Luncheonette at the Green Dragon Farmer's Market from 1968 until she retired in 1993. After her retirement, she began quilting and made many quilts for family members. She loved working outside, cooking and cleaning inside.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 4 sons, Barry, husband of Dolores Hackman of Oley, Scott, husband of Carol Hackman of Ephrata, Kim, husband of Deb Hackman of Ephrata, Jim, husband of Kim Hackman of Ephrata; a daughter, Dawn, wife of Roger Spencer of New Holland; a daughter in law, Gina Hackman of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; 2 sisters, Mary Snader of Ephrata, Tressie Martin of Ephrata; 1 brother, Chester Peachey of Reamstown.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Doug Hackman; 2 sisters, Minnie Burkholder and Leona Horst; 3 brothers, Warren, Merle and Kenneth Peachey.
A memorial service will be held in the Donecker Chapel at the Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, with Pastor Adam Forry officiating. Family will greet visitors in the Chapel from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Middle Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
