- Douglas L. Hackman, 57, Ephrata, passed away peacefully at Reading Hospital on Monday, December 24, 2007, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was the husband of Gina D. (Reinhold) Hackman, married for 28 years. Born in Ephrata, he was a son of R. Donald and Clara (Peachey) Hackman, of Ephrata. Doug graduated from Ephrata High School in 1968 and served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at Weinstock-Conestoga, Lancaster, then as a letter carrier at Akron Post Office since 1982. He attended New Joy Church, Ephrata, at the time of passing. He enjoyed all sports, both playing and coaching for many years. He enjoyed watching college basketball, especially Indiana, and going to 1st round of the NCAA tournament with friends. He also followed LA Dodgers baseball and Penn State football. He also enjoyed working outside around the house, vacationing at his brother's cabin in Lycoming County, and going to Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, MD. He is survived by his wife and parents, two children, daughter Jeneice A. of New York, NY, and son, Shawn D. of Ephrata, four brothers, Barry L., husband of Dolores (Haas) Hackman, Oley, Scott P., husband of Carole (Pohner) Hackman, Ephrata, Kim P., husband of Deb (Hartranft) Hackman, Ephrata, and James D., husband of Kim (Smolko) Hackman, Ephrata, and a sister, Dawn R., wife of Roger Spencer, New Holland. He had many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM, on Friday, January 4, 2008, at New Joy Church, 35 New Joy Drive, Ephrata. A private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Douglas' memory be sent to the New Joy Church, 35 New Joy Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522 or to the Ephrata War Memorial Association, PO Box 264, Ephrata, PA 17522.
