  Source: Bluffton News-Banner Monday, March 27, 2006 A native of Bluffton, Dr. Glade Allen McAfee, 86, Portland, died Friday, March 24, 2006 in Heritage Commons in Portland. Born in Bluffton on Dec. 30, 1919 to O. Coulson and Mary Jane Armstrong McAfee, he married Joyce H. Wilson on Dec. 6, 1953; she died Dec. 2, 2005. A 1938 graduate of Bluffton High School, he attended the Columbia School of Pharmacy and graduated in 1950 from the Illinois College of Optometry. He had a practice in Portland since 1952, retiring in Aug., 2003 after 51 years. Dr. McAfee was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Coast Guard and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a member for over 46 years and past president of the Portland Kiwanis Club, a member of the Portland Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 211, Jay Lodge 87 F.&A.M., Knights of Pithias, Fort Wayne York Rite, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Temple of Fort Wayne and the Mizpah Shrine Band. He was also past-president of East Central Optometric Society. Surviving are two daughters, Julie Forcum of Hartford City and Shawna Mayberry of Arlington, Texas; a half-sister, Mary Speheger of Bluffton; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchilden. Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Asbury United Methodist Church. Calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland, and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the church or Shriner's Hospital.
