Fairview Cemetery is a two part cemetery. North of Fairview Road is considered the old cemetery or Cemetery #1. South of Fairview Road is considered the new cemetery or Cemetery #2.

Due to the Civil War, Pioneer Cemetery had reached it's capacity. The towns people of Bowling Green deemed it time to purchace land for a new cemetery. Wanting to use land known as Copley Knob, located in the southwest part of town. However, due to substantual damage done to the site during the Civil War, this site was not used. A new site was picked and in 1864 William McNeal sold the town 30 acres along Cemetery Pike (now Fairview Road) for $100.00 a acre. This original 30 acres are known as Fairview Cemetery #1.

On July 20, 1865, Reverend A.C. Dickerson delivered the dedication address for the new cemetery. In 1954, as Fairview Cemetery (#1) was getting close to its capacity, the now City of Bowling Green bought acres across the street for future burials creating the newer part of Fairview known as Fairview Cemetery #2.

Within Fairview Cemetery #1 is located the Confederate Monument erected in 1875, to comemorate the 200 soldiers buried in a concentric circles around the limestone shaft.

Captain Robert Craddock and Pierre Tardiveau are the two known Revolutionary War heroes buried in Fairview Cemetery #1

NOTE:Fairview Cemeteries #1 & #2 are perfectly maintained by The City of Bowling Green Dept. of Parks & Recreation.
