All Lutherans in Myerstown belonged to Christ Lutheran Church in Stouchsburg. A movement was begun in 1811 to establish a congregation in Myerstown. Michael Mosser and Simon Bassler, descendants of the early settlers from the Schoharie Valley NY, freely and without monetary consideration, presented the land for church and burial purposes.
The first church was a one story stone structure dedicated November 1, 1812. After 45 years, the congregation had outgrown this facility. Rather than remodel, a decision was made to erect a new brick building on the same site at the corner of Main and Locust Streets. At a cost of $9,000, the new building was dedicated November 14, 1858.
The current Church was dedicated November 6, 1960 and is located between W. Washington Avenue and Route 422. In 1962, the 26 acre Lentz farm was purchased to form a new cemetery, Friedens Memorial Park. The Old Union Cemetery, jointly owned by the Lutheran and Reformed Congregations had no more lots available. This section is to the West of Locust Street where the original church was located. The section to the East of Locust Street is sometimes referred to the New Union Cemetery or Frieden's Lutheran Cemetery and had limited lots available.
