Early records note that baptisms were performed as early as 1734. Consistent worship occurred as early at 1739 in a farmhouse destroyed by indian raids. In 1764, a building was constructed on South Broad Street in Jonestown, PA. This was a joint congregation of Lutheran and Reformed tradition. In 1792 a new church was constructed solely for Lutheran worship. On May 11, 1853, the cornerstone was laid at the present location of 103 East Market St., Jonestown, PA. Services were conducted in German until after the Civil War when they switched to English.
An educational wing was constructed between 1960 and 1963. During this time, the Church received court approval to re-inter about 250 bodies from the old cemetery adjacent to the church under the foundation of the new wing. Families were given the option to have remains moved to another cemetery. Contributor Mosslady has obtained a list of re-interments from the Church which includes 165 names.
